Patricia Okeyo

 

Dr Patricia Onyango-Okeyo is a skilled General Obstetrician Gynaecologist with over 12 years experience, including teaching in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology-University of Witwatersrand and running a private practice in Johannesburg. Her responsibilities in the state hospital included teaching undergraduates and postgraduates, setting up and running of an antiretroviral antenatal clinic, managing and running a infertility clinic, consultant in charge of the rape and domestic violence cases that the hospital would get on occasion, co-consultant in the oncology unit and in the laparoscopic/endoscopic unit.

Dr Okeyo has a particular interest in HIV and pregnancy and set up the Obstetric department, an antenatal clinic for pregnant moms with HIV/AIDS. Her other interests are Cervical cancer screening and its prevention, family planning and menopause. To this end she continually makes efforts in increasing public awareness for regular annual checkups and the role of screening to prevent diseases in women.

Dr Okeyo has featured in various television programs, newspapers and magazines as a means for public awareness for women’s health issues.Dr Okeyo’s work is centred on her faith, believing that it is possible in her lifetime that the African woman will one day be empowered with knowledge and understanding of their being and thereby equipped to take ownership of their health and seek preventive and primary interventions. It is her opinion that no woman should die from cervical cancer.
